My employment was something that I very much enjoyed and I got alot of gratification and satisfaction out of all my jobs.
My brother wanted a job at www.southbendclutch.com/html (KALEY MOTOR SERVICE), but after asking if they were hiring he instead was referred to James P. Pyfer, President of http://www.southbendclutch.com/. James Pyfer hired my brother and after about one year of employment my brother got me a job there.
Mr. Pyfer went broke in the clutch rebuilding business 4 or 5 times int he past. I found him to be a very intelligent person and a good judge of character but he was a chronic alcoholic and extremely homophobic, so I expected at some time in the future we would have problems.
Mr. Pyfer's sons, Walter (Woody), Andrew (Andy) and Peter, were part-time, on and off employees at the shop when they could, or needed the money.
After about two years of working at South Bend Clutch with my brother as my supervisor and Woody Pyfer as my co-worker, I went to lunch one day, only to come back to work to find that my brother had been fired by Mr. James Pyfer and I was the new "shop foremen", with the owner, James Pyfer's two son's, Walter and Andrew, and his two step-sons, Dan and Rod, as my employees.
I worked at South Bend Clutch from 1976 to 1981 when I quit. Mr. Pyfer's insisted that I be at his company constantly, because of my knowledge and skill level at my job, and my self-assertive attitude about "getting it done".
I lived in close proximity to the company at 709 West Jefferson Blvd in Mishawaka Indiana and one day I called in and took the day off and told my boss, Mr. Pyfer I would be taking the day off because of an illness and he drove over to my house and told me that I didn't look sick and he needed me at work...immediately.
In 1979 I had been sick, not feeling well for about 3 months, and I assumed it was a "flu bug" and continued to go to my job. Mr. Pyfer had noticed my ill behavior at work but had inquired if I was feeling well and I told him I thought it was the flu but that I had gotten a flu shot. One Monday I had gotten up for work and had body aches so bad that I couldn't get out of bed and had called the hospital and they had advised me to come to the Emergency Room. When I got to the hospital the doctor gave me an examination and he called a nurse and she came in and told me to get in a wheelchair. I informed her that I was there to get a flu shot and she asked my name and when I told her she said no...get in the chair. I was taken to a room where I was stripped of my clothes which were disposed of and my door had a "QUARANTINE" sign on it. To my shock I had been hospitalized for Spinal Meningitis, which is highly contagious. Come to find out I had had walking pneumonia for over 4 months.
Mr. James Pyfer left my job open for one year and he told me at anytime during that year I could come back and resume my employment with his company. I decided it would be in both the company's and my best interests to seek employment elsewhere, and did not return to the company for over four years.
After leaving South Bend Clutch I moved to Florida, where one of my oldest friends, Scott Sorget, lived, in Merritt Island Florida, with his family, whom I have been close friends with since I was 6 years old. I had extensive background employment as a millwright and had applied at Happel Marine, 474 Barnes Blvd., Rockledge, Florida, as a tablesaw operator building component boat for custom yachts such as DONZI, WELLCRAFT, SER-RAY, REGAL, and many others.
I was hired at Happel Marine at $5.50 per hour as a millwright (woodworker). After working for a year at the company with no raise I was forced to seek more lucrative employment, I also was having problems with the plant super-intendent, Heinz Lohmann. After a very distressing week and an even more distressing day I left and informed the owner, Ron Faulisi that I would be leaving his employment and would be in on Friday to pickup my check.
To my surprise Heinz Lohmanm showed up at my door shortly after he had gotten off work, with a 12 pack of beer and ask me if he could come into my home to talk. After consuming the beverages and discussing work and wages he agreed to a increase in my wage and I agreed to return to work after a couple of days rest.
I worked for another 8 months and was very dissatisfied with my employment, being laid-off every two weeks, as so the company didn't have to pay unemployment benefits and the behavior of the foreman Heinz Lohmann, he was very jealous of my common-sense and my ambition.
The last time I went to work for this company I decided to buy a home in Merritt Island Florida. The rent was outragious and I had the means to purchase a home.
My boss knew I was buying a home and the day I went for my closing, and signed my mortgage, I returned to the factory to find out that I had been laid-off...indefinately.
I ended up quiting this job because I was on the verge of losing my home and the company, after being called by them to return and resume my employment on four occasions in the past, had no sympathy for my situation.
The self-indulgent greed of Ron Faulisi told me alot about the need for people to keep up their social appearance, and the trouble they cause for those around them.
I personally will not indulge in any behavior such as that. Take you social stigmatisms and ram them in your fucking ass.
THESE WERE SIGNIFICANT JOBS THAT I ENJOYED AND LEARNED ALOT AT...MAYBE TOO MUCH...CONSIDERING THE "NON-COMPETITION AGREEMENT", AT SOUTH BEND CLUTCH, AND THE LAWSUIT AND CHAOS IT CAUSED...and THE FUCKING ARROGANCE OF RON FAULISI LAYING ME OFF THE DAY I PURCHASED MY HOME.
REBUILDING CLUTCHES IS SOMETHING THAT I FOCUSED ON "AT WORK", THE REST OF THE INFORMATION I LEARNED "AFTER" I LEFT THE COMPANY.
MY TIME IN THE BAY ARE I ENJOYED AND LEARNED ALOT AT...MAYBE TOO MUCH HERE TOO.
REBUILDING BIKES IS SOMETHING I FOCUSED ON...BECAUSE IT WAS SOMETHING I ENJOYED.
AND IT IS THE SOLE REASON I QUIT DRINKING.
YOU PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT THAT WAS TO "ME".
I COULD CARE LESS WHAT ANYBODY ELSE THOUGHT WAS IMPORATANT.
MY CHECK MAY BE "YOUR" MONEY,
BUT THIS IS MY LIFE,
AND I WILL LIVE IT.
THE REST OF WHAT I LEARNED, IN AND ABOUT, THE BAY AREA, I LEARNED AFTER I LEFT.
